Prodata Weather Systems (PWS) is a specialist UK supplier of cost-effective weather-monitoring equipment. They aim to innovate in two main ways by:
- Making previously high-end weather and soil monitoring solutions available at new low price-points;
- Offering particular expertise in collecting data automatically from weather and soil sensors (at both local and remote locations) and in collating that data on PC and web platforms. Station configurations for both real-time and retrospective/archive data handling are available and include an affordable, fully autonomous solar-powered station that reports data via the mobile phone network.
The agricultural sector is a particular focus for growth and PWS are keen to explore opportunities for collaboration on all aspects of cost-effective applications that monitor and use weather and soil data.
Potential applications range from general good practice in keeping detailed weather/soil records to help monitor crop performance; checking weather conditions for spraying and irrigation; helping efficient use of plant/manpower for farms with a wide geographical spread via remote sensing; and of course disease prevention.
In addition, weather sensing has many uses beyond agriculture and PWS’ customer base also extends to other sectors, such as: education; surveying potential sites for green energy; many weather-dependent outdoor sports and activities including e.g. playing field/golf-course maintenance; and academic and commercial R&D
PWS is a small but established enterprise based at Littleport in the Cambridgeshire Fens.
