Pollinator: Re-Visiting the Vision of the Connected Farm
October 15 @ 4:00 pm - 7:15 pm
Pollinator - Re-Visiting the Vision of the Connected Farm
Machine-to-machine communication and the “Internet of Things” (IoT) are predicted to transform farming. But seamless cross-talk and integration between devices, machinery and systems is still on the wish-list of most farmers. Here we’ll have an update on the new technologies, how close the industry is to overcoming the challenges of inter-operability, and explore how to overcome the obstacles to enable remote management of crops, livestock – and the entire connected farm.
With inspiration from “smart cities” and other platforms, we’ll discuss the role of standards in encouraging widespread adoption and how networks and devices can be integrated to provide that Holy Grail of the truly connected farm. We’ll also discover the practicalities behind the concept of a “hands-free” farm and explore the infrastructure needs to enable such smart farming to be a commercial reality.
