Upper Wensum Farm Tour – Robert Hambidge
October 9 @ 4:00 pm - 6:30 pmFree
This October we are going to be visiting Robert Hambidge’s farm near Pudding Norton, Norfolk. Robert is an early adopter of minimal tillage cultivation on his farm of 264ha based in Pudding Norton. With soils ranging from light sands to flinty clay, his commercial farming is duelled with a wide rotation, cover cropping and a large proportion of the farm included in countryside stewardship to promote biodiversity. Robert is a true believer in using innovation and technology whilst enhancing the environment for biodiversity.
The Upper Wensum Cluster Farm Group, of which Robert is a key member, consists of 22 farmers across 9,500ha surrounding the Wensum River Valley. Together with their own advisor funded by the landowners, the group works towards improving water quality and enhancing the wider biodiversity. With all the farms connected by boundary one of the groups priorities is habitat connectivity, the main other is collective learning, sharing and thinking all together as a group.
This visit will allow participants to take a tour around Robert’s farm observing different ways of working and the integration of technology as well as understanding the role biodiversity has to play and how this can be done alongside commercial farming.
