YIF: Frederick Hiam Factory Tour
February 28 @ 3:00 pm - 6:00 pm
Calling all young farmers and early career researchers!
Join us for a free tour of Frederick Hiam’s packaging facility as part of our Young Innovators’ Forum series of events. They pack a variety of root crops for the UK and international wholesale and retail markets, and wash and pack on average 1,400 tonnes of crop weekly.
We’ll be taking a tour round some of their purpose built production lines, including parsnip intake (washing and soil removal), packaging store, grading machines, salad lines, cold stores and more.
Researchers will get an idea of what happens to produce post harvest including some of the technology used in ensuring top quality produce for the end customer and how this needs to be built with plant traits in mind.
Industry attendees, including young farmers, agronomists, or agribusiness professionals, will be able to see a large processing operation in action, and find out more about packing for retailers and end consumers.
The tour will take place on 28th February 2019. To join this free visit, aimed at early career attendees in the agriculture sector, please email [email protected]. Numbers are limited so get in touch to secure your place. Help with transport may be available – just enquire.
Agri-Tech East’s Young Innovators’ Forum, kindly sponsored by The Morley Agricultural Foundation, is designed to help farmers and scientists understand more about each other’s worlds through a series of free to attend events.
